Louisiana State Campgrounds
Fountainebleau
State Park
 |
Mandeville, LA |
Old camp grounds but plenty of wildlife to see. Beautiful Oak trees
on banks of Lake Ponchatrain. At night one can discover the LARGE population of deer that
inhabit this state park over in the common picnic areas (away from the campsites). Also
available are foxes, squirrels, nutria, opossums, raccoons, and the wild cows (2 of them -
you have to ask the rangers about their history). Also on the grounds is the ruins of a Sugar Mill built in 1829! e/w/s. |
| KOA of Lafayette |
Scott, LA |
Very clean campground with Swimming Pool, Fishing Lake with Paddle Boats
and Putt-Putt Golf Course. Sites are very close together though. e/w/s onsite. |
| Cajun Campground |
Port Allen, LA
(near Baton Rouge) |
Only a couple of trees, very small pool, but on Saturday nights they
usually serve a free "Cajun" supper with a live band in the pavilion. Very clean
and close to Baton Rouge's floating casinos. |
| Lake
Bistineau |
Minden, LA (Near Shreveport) |
Very clean State Park on Lake Bistineau with nice Fire Rings, Lantern
Posts, and Paved pull-through's. In the woods, very shaded but with little wildlife. |
| Shreveport Bossier
KOA |
Shreveport, LA |
Clean, 50% shady, Pool and Hot tub. Close to downtown Shreveport yet far
enough out to be in safe area. |
| Fairview-Riverside
State Park |
Madisonville, LA |
Another very nice State Park located on the Tchefuncte River, right off of
Lake Ponchatrain. 98% of sites are well shaded, and campground has a boat ramp and dock. |
| Chicot
State Park |
Ville Platte, LA |
One of Louisiana's oldest State Parks. Very large Park (6000 acres) with
2000 acre Lake. Also has an Olympic sized Swimming Pool. One caveat is it's next to land
used for hunting. |
| Sam
Houston Jones State Park |
Lake Charles, LA |
Very nice campground in a native swamp environment. They have campsites
right up against swamp banks where all sorts of semi-tamed wildlife will come from
scavenging for food. Plentiful are the ducks, geese, deer, nutria, opossums, raccoons, and
squirrels. Second best park in LA for showing off natural surroundings. |
| Lake
Fausse Point State Park |
St. Martinville, LA |
Deep in the heart of the swamplands and bayous of LA! DO NOT forget your
absolute best mosquito repellants! Natural scenery just don't get better than this. Caveat
is it's relatively hard to get to and there is no large/medium towns nearby. Included boat
ramps enable you to virtually get swallowed up in the swamps if you venture off
too far! |
| Tickfaw
State Park |
Springfield, LA |
LA's newest state park. Not convenient to any large/medium cities, but
this park is also surrounded by LA's natural environments. Elevated walkway through the
swamps and bayous of the Tickfaw River enable you to spot Alligators and other animals
from a safe distance. Do watch out for snakes - and bring plenty of mosquito repellant! |

| Mississippi
Private Campgrounds |
Web site for campgrounds located in Mississippi. We recommend Southern
Comfort Campground when staying in Biloxi MS. All the local casinos have shuttle buses
that pick up from this campground. This campground is family oriented and right across the
street from the Gulf of Mexico. |
| Mississippi State Parks and
Campgrounds |
One stop shopping of campgrounds in Mississippi. This site
will send you to both public and private campgrounds in the Mississippi
area. |
| Laurel KOA |
Nice shaded campground. Offers clean bath houses, swimming pool, local
cable, and clean, shaded, roomy lots - plenty of them being pull-through's. Very friendly
folks, located on the I-59 corridor! |
| Percy Quinn State Park |
We highly recommend Percy Quinn State Park located just outside McComb MS.
Very nice roomy, shaded campgrounds with a good share of lots located on the Tickfaw lake.
This park recently put in it's own Golf Course. When staying here one must eat a
meal at the "Dinner Bell", located in downtown McComb, for a truly unique
experience! |

| Alabama
State Parks and Campgrounds |
My favorite Beach type campground is Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores AL.
This web site will tell you more about this park as well as the rest of Alabama's State
Parks! |
Fort Pickens Campground
Pensacola FL |
This campground located just outside of Pensacola FL has some of the
nicest, whitest sandy beaches I have ever seen! The campground is within a bike's ride and
has it's own dedicated beaches and beach front pavilion. The Fort is a great place to
escape the sun and learn a little about American History as well. The Gulf water here is
very clear although you may encounter Seaweed and/or Jellyfish at times. |
